The Lion King Reveals Extended TV Spot & Soundtrack List

Disney has revealed a new extended TV spot for The Lion King, in addition to unveiling the tracklist for the film’s soundtrack. The latter, which sees the return of composer Hans Zimmer, along with the likes of Elton John and Tim Rice. The soundtrack is set to feature two new songs, one of which is performed by John. The other has yet to be announced. Below, you can find the new TV spot and soundtrack list for The Lion King.

Right off the bat, the big takeaway here is the duet between Donald Glover‘s Simba and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter‘s Nala. The classic song “Can You Feel The Love Tonight?” is sampled here, which is also are the first glimpses of Knowles’ character. The trailer also focuses heavily on James Earl Jones’ Mufasa, which also showcases new footage. The remake of The Lion King is undoubtedly playing on nostalgia, which is further evidenced by the TV spot.

Directed by Jon Favreau, the screenplay for the film was written by Jeff Nathanson. Along Glover, Knowles-Carter, and Jones, The Lion King also features the voice talents of Chiwetel EjioforSeth RogenBilly EichnerAlfre Woodard, John Oliver, and Keegan-Michael Key

The digital soundtrack is set for release on July 11, 2019, while the physical album is now available for pre-order. The soundtrack will release the same day The Lion King opens in U.S. theaters on July 19, 2019. In the meantime, you can find the official synopsis for the film below:

Disney’s “The Lion King,” directed by Jon Favreau, journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own.

The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. Staying true to the classic story, Favreau utilizes pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring the iconic characters to the big screen in a whole new way. Also featuring James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon, Disney’s “The Lion King” opens in U.S. theaters on July 19, 2019.
