Sir Roger Moore, James Bond Actor, Dies At 89

Sir Roger Moore, the iconic actor who played James Bond, has died. He was 89 years old. Moore passed away after a “short but brave battle with cancer,” according to a statement from his family. The statement was posted by Moore’s children collectively on Twitter.

“With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the awful news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, has passed away today,” the post said. “We are all devastated. Thank you Pops for being you, and for being so very special to so many people.”

Moore played the famous Agent 007 in seven Bond films. He debuted in 1973’s Live and Let Die, taking over the role from Sean Connery. He went on to star in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), Octopussy (1983), and A View to a Kill (1985), amongst others.

Throughtout his career, Moore appeared in several other notable films including Sherlock Holmes in New York (1977), The Cannonball Run (1981), Curse of the Pink Panther (1983), and Spice World (1997).

Moore also appeared in television shows like Maverick, The Saint, and The Persuaders.

Sir Roger Moore was also an avid humanitarian. He became an emabssador to UNICEF in 1991, and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003 for his charitable efforts. In a statement, fellow UNICEF Ambassador and actor Ewan McGregor said, “Thank you, Roger, for having championed so tiressly the rights of all children for the last 26 years.”
