‘Black Mirror’ Season 5 Trailer Unveils Episode Count & Premiere Date

Black Mirror is back with a new trailer for season 5, and it sure is a doozie. Right off the bat, the biggest revelation from the trailer is that Season 5 will only include three episodes. It’s original run on British television, the series started off with condensed 3-episode seasons. Once it was acquired by Netflix however, it shifted to an episode count of 6 starting in Season 3. Now, it seems that Netflix is returning to the original format. Check out the trailer for Black Mirror Season 5 below:

The show is known for pushing the limits of science fiction storytelling into something closer to science fact. More so than any season before it, this new trailer for season five of Charlie Brooker’s opus seems to be leaning into this idea heavily. The show is notorious for it’s dark and dreary nature. But this season seems to be brightening things up — at least in terms of the visual aesthetic. It’s filled with tons of colorful imagery, let alone the stacked cast that populates the latest season of the series.

Black Mirror returns with its much-anticipated fifth season on Wednesday, June 5th, exclusively on Netflix. Experience three all-new stories from mastermind Charlie Brooker and executive producer Annabel Jones. Season 5 stars Anthony Mackie, Miley Cyrus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace, Damson Idris, Andrew Scott, Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff, Angourie Rice, Madison Davenport and Ludi Lin.

Below, you can find the official synopsis for Black Mirror Season 5, in addition to a batch of new images in Gallery form:

Black Mirror is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia leading to an unforgettable – and sometimes unsettling – conclusion. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives; in every home; on every desk; in every palm – a plasma screen; a monitor; a Smartphone – a Black Mirror reflecting our 21st Century existence back at us. The series is created and written by Charlie Brooker, and executive produced by Brooker and Annabel Jones.
