Filming For ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Series Will Commence This Summer

It looks like the rumors are true and the long-awaited news that “Lord Of The Rings” fans were waiting for is finally here. Amazon has revealed that filming on the upcoming “Lord Of The Rings” series will commence this summer.

Amazon is picking up the series just prior to the events which took place in “The Lord Of The Rings” and the armies of Mordor, Gondor and Rohan will once again be resurrected, along with a whole new cast of characters and adventures.

The majority of the filming will take place in Scotland, which will take the place of the New Zealand backdrop used for Peter Jackson’s film trilogy. The production team for the series will be working at the studios in Leith, Edinburgh. Officially, only two showrunners have been hired for the project: Patrick McKay and John D. Payne (the new Star Trek trilogy). Filming should begin in August and the series is slated for release sometime in 2021.

The Lord of the Rings prequel is one of Amazon’s most ambitious projects and has already been announced as the most expensive series in the history of television (an estimated budget of 1 billion dollars, which includes the adaptation rights purchased from the Tolkien Estate, which stand at 250 million dollars alone). The streaming platform has slowly but surely begun to release information about the series, revealing that the epic tale will be set during the Second Age of Middle-Earth and will focus on the island of Númenor.
