The Complete List of 2019 Tony Award Nominees

The complete list of nominations for the 2019 Tony Awards has been released. This year, Hadestown leads all nominees with a total of 14 nominations including Best Musical. Other serious Tony contenders this year are Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of The Temptations which is nominated for 12 awards and Tootsie which garnered 11 nominations.

In Plays, The Ferryman and To Kill a Mockingbird each received 9 nominations, tied for most in Plays and fourth overall. The Ferryman is up for Best Play, while Jeff Daniels is up for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for his role in To Kill a Mockingbird.

The nominees were announced live today from the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center by two-time Tony winner Bebe Neuwirth (A Chorus Line, Chicago, The Addams Family) and Tony nominee Brandon Victor Dixon (The Color Purple, Rent, Hamilton). Neuwirth garnered the Tony Award in 1986 for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her stage debut in Sweet Charity. She won again in 1997 for Best Actress in a Musical for her role in Chicago.

This year, Terrence McNally, Rosemary Harris, and Harold Wheeler will all receive Lifetime Achievement in Theater honors.

Judith Light will be receiving the Isabelle Stevenson Award. In 2012 and 2013, Light won back-to-back Tony Awards for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her roles in Other Desert Cities and The Assembled Parties. Since 1975, Light has appeared in over a dozen stage productions.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley will receive the Regional Theatre Tony Award. Tony Honors for Excellent in Theater will go to Peter Entin, Joseph Blakely Forbes, FDNY Engine 54, and Broadway Inspirational Voices.

Sonny Tilders, Jason Michael Webb, and the late Marin Mazzie will all receive Special Tony Awards.
