Andrew Lincoln Says He’s ‘Still In Denial’ About Exit From AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’

During their recent panel at New York Comic Con ‘Walking Dead’ star Andy Lincoln revealed to the massive crowd at New York’s Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden that he is very much still “in a world of denial” about his character upcoming departure from the series, which Lincoln has been with since day one.

He appeared to be almost brought to tears by the fans massive reaction, as this is truly a day that none of us wanted to see coming! We saw the same reaction from “The Walking Dead” panel at San Diego Comic Con, as it finally began to sink in that this may very well be one of the last times we see Lincoln and his beloved character Rick Grimes gracing the Comic Con main stages.

It has not yet been revealed exactly which episode will mark Lincoln’s final appearance on the show, but rumors were swirling that it had something to do with episode five, but we can’t know for sure, as the showrunners are definitely keeping that information under wraps.

It was also revealed during the NYCC panel that some characters from the past would be making a comeback this season including Sonequa Martin-Green, Jon Bernthal and the late Scott Wilson. Sadly, the news broke last evening that 76-year old Wilson passed away after a battle with an unconfirmed illness. Fans are absolutely heartbroken by the news, especially after it was revealed that he would be making a comeback.

We are not yet sure in what capacity these characters will be making their return, but showrunner Angela Kang confirmed that we will definitely see them in some capacity in season nine. It was also revealed that Lincoln will be stepping behind the camera to direct an upcoming episode of the series as well!

Lincoln was joined by his “Walking Dead” co-stars Jefferey Dean Morgan, Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, as well as, creator Robert Kirkman, showrunner Angela Kang, and executive producers Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and Dave Alpert who were all sporting Rick Grimes trademark sheriff’s hat!

It was truly a heartwarming moment on stage!  AMC also had another huge surprise for fans, as they were treated to a very special screening of the season nine premiere episode in its’ entirety prior to it’s official network premiere on Sunday, October 6 at 9:00pm ET/PT.
