First ‘Overlord’ Trailer Is Absolutely Bonkers

Paramount Pictures has finally revealed the first trailer for ‘Overlord‘, the new J.J. Abrams produced WWII zombie movie. The film has long been rumored to be yet another entry into the ‘Cloverfield‘ universe, but this trailer seems to indicate that it will be an absolutely bonkers zombie movie. Directed by Julius Averythe film follows a group of paratroopers who are sent behind enemy lines to carry out a crucial mission on the eve of D-Day. What they find in the small, Nazi-occupied village is more than they ever could have expected.

There was a lot of mystery surrounding ‘Overlord‘ before the release of this new trailer, but it seems to be another iteration of Abrams’ famous “mystery box” storytelling at work. The trailer itself is pretty great, but the most surprising thing is the highly effective use of AC/DC’s “Hells Bells” through this first trailer. I’m usually not a fan of using more contemporary music for period pieces older than the music itself, but there’s something delightful about how this song differentiates the trailer form your usual period piece.

Abrams was naturally tight-lipped about more details on the project, but during this year’s Cinema Con the producer called the project “batshit crazy“. ‘Overlord‘ was written by Billy Ray and Mark L. Smith. The film stars Jovan Adepo, Jacob Anderson, Pilou Asbæk, Iain De Caestecker, John Magaro, Wyatt Russell and Bokeem Woodbine. Overlord‘ is currently set for a November 9, 2018 release date, but in the meantime you can watch the first trailer below:

On the eve of D-Day, paratroopers drop behind enemy lines to carry out a crucial mission for the invasion. As they approach their target, they soon begin to realize there’s more going on in the Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation.
