Saying A Tearful, Yet Satisfying Goodbye To Netflix’s ‘Sense8’

Upon hearing the news that my beloved “Sense8” was cancelled by Netflix after last season, I was left reeling, along with the rest of the shows die-hard fan base. We kept thinking there is no way that they can just leave things how they were, especially when the show had just reached a pivotal story arc and all of our senseates in the cluster were finally at long last together.

Due to the extreme dedication of fans, it was announced that Netflix and director/creator Lana Wachowski had reached an agreement to air a much deserved series finale to both appease fans and assist with tying up the show’s many loose ends. Let’s just say it did not disappoint! Wachowski delivered a true gift to fans and in my opinion one of the best series finales I have seen in recent years.

While we certainly do not want to give away any spoilers for those gearing up to stream the upcoming nearly two and half hour finale available on Netflix June 8th, we can say that you are definitely in-store for a roller coaster of emotions while viewing. I found myself running the full gambit of emotions during the finale, fully immersed in the characters joy and sorrow and also love and pain.

What I have always enjoyed about “Sense8” is the way that the series refused to fit into any particular genre box. It was a little bit of mystery, a little bit of sci-fi, a whole lot of love, but mostly it was just about the characters. We all fell in love with these characters and could truly feel their anguish just as strongly as we could feel their happiness.

The show’s premise was definitely a risk, as it follows eight central characters who are all psychically connected and being targeted by an evil corporation whose only goal is to exploit their powers. Definitely sounds a bit odd, but you know what, it worked and I am still terribly sad that “Sense8” had to come to an end.

The finale picks up right where the season two cliffhanger left us, with all of the senseates together in France attempting to rescue Wolfgang after he was captured by the evil BPO corporation. The senseates had kidnapped the nefarious Whispers and the action kicks in full gear right away.

You would never expect things to be that easy for the senseates, who are phenomenally portrayed by Toby Onwumere, Tina Desai, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Jamie Clayton, Tuppence Middleton, Doona Bae, Brian J. Smith and Max Riemelt, and they are met with plenty of trials and tribulations throughout the finale episode. It was also amazing to see the extended cast, which included the senseates friends and lovers playing pivotal roles throughout the episode as well.

“Sense8” brings about a message of strength in unity and the importance of working together as a team, not just the original senseates, but everyone that is important in their individual lives outside of the cluster as well. The message comes through loud and clear and it is definitely something important to think about especially with the times we are living in!

Lana Wachowski did a fantastic job with directing the final episode and I feel the series received the proper send-off it deserved. I can say it definitely ends with a bang (take that however you will) and can’t stress enough how deeply saddened I am that the series was forced to come to an end, but I am definitely pleased with the overall conclusion.

The “Sense8” series finale will be available for streaming on June 8th!
