‘Mission: Impossible Fallout’ Wraps Filming (Finally)

Principal Photography on writer/director Christopher McQuarrie‘s latest directorial effort, ‘Mission: Impossible Fallout‘, has been anything but a cake-walk. The helmet’s return to the franchise is an exciting one after the stellar ‘Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation‘, but the movie gods seem to be making it hard for the filmmaker. After multiple hiatuses–including the one where producer/star Tom Cruise broke his ankle while filming a stunt last year (you can watch the footage of that here)–and several other production challenges that are involved with shooting a movie in real locations, ‘Mission: Impossible Fallout‘ has finally wrapped filming.

To celebrate the nearly year-long shoot, McQuarrie took to his Instagram page to commemorate the occasion. Here’s the photo:

The hard work is not over, however. With the film barreling toward it’s intended July release date, there’s still tons to be done from a post production perspective. Considering the intricacies that a big movie with big stunts like this one needs to be completed, it will be interesting to see if Paramount’s unwillingness to push the release date will pay off. Regardless, McQuarrie and co. are sure to be racing against the clock to meet that release window and still deliver a quality film.

In addition to Cruise, ‘Mission: Impossible Fallout‘ stars Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Michelle Monaghan, Sean Harris, Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby. The film is set to be released on July 27, 2018. In the meantime, here’s the synopsis for the film:

The best intentions often come back to haunt you.  MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong.  Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby also join the dynamic cast with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm.
