Paramount has released a new featurette for ‘Mission: Impossible Fallout‘ that highlights one of the new show-stopping stunts that Tom Cruise performs for the latest entry in the series, and it surely is a doozie. The film, which sees the return of writer/director Christopher McQuarrie to the helm, follows Ethan Hunt as as he deals with the literal and metaphorical “fallout” for his decisions in the past. Although the film has had it’s production problems (you can watch Cruise break his ankle on the set last year here), it hasn’t wavered form it’s intended release date just a few months away.
Cruise’s injury hasn’t stopped him from performing one of the crazier stunts in the franchise, in terms of pure danger. As the video points out, Cruise went to airbus to learn how to pilot a helicopter, eventually racking up over 2,000 hours of flight time needed to gain the skills necessary for the sequence. The fact that Cruise is even allowed to do stunts like this blows my mind, but regardless, it’s insane stunts like this one that keep us coming back for more with this franchise. Based on this featurette, it seems that Cruise just may have topped himself, again.
In addition to cruise, the film stars Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Angela Bassett, Vanessa Kirby, Alec Baldwin, Wes Bentley, Frederick Schmidt, Sean Harris, and Michelle Monaghan. ‘Mission: Impossible Fallout‘ hits theaters on July 27th, but in the meantime here’s the featurette, along with the official synopsis for the film:
