Disney finally unveiled our first look at ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story‘ during the big game this past weekend, only to see the release the full trailer for the film yesterday. ‘Solo‘ has seen a long, rough road to the big screen, but the trailer seemed to quell fears that the mouse house was writing off ‘Solo’–somewhat. The trailer itself gave us a pretty great look at the visual aesthetic of the film, which looks to dark and moody–even more so than something like ‘Rogue One‘. Much like ‘The Force Awakens‘, there seems to be a nice mix of the new and the familiar, and these new images only seem to confirm this idea.
I’m still not 100% sold on the flick however, simply because there’s no indication of plot or even character in the trailer. I mean, the movie is titled ‘Solo’, so you’d think that we might get more than just a few glimpses and a line or two from our title character. It’s ultimately a teaser trailer, so there’s a natural sense of mystery around the plot, but with roughly four months until release, it seems ‘Solo’ seems supremely late to the party. These new images give us a good first look at all of the characters, along with some of the new locations that we’ll visit in the film.
The film boasts a stellar cast comprised of Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, along with Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, Thandie Newton, and Paul Bettany in supporting roles. The film is directed by Ron Howard, with a script written by Lawrence and Jake Kasdan. ‘Solo’ blasts into heaters on May 25th, 2018.
