First ‘Venom’ Trailer Teases the Symbiote

Sony has finally released the trailer for long-awaited ‘Venom‘ standalone movie. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer, and stars Tom Hardy as the titular anti-hero, with a script by Scott RosenbergJeff Pinkner and Kelly Marcel and Will Beal. Plot details are pretty much non-existent at this point, but we do know that ‘Venom‘ is intended to be a standalone piece that doesn’t connect to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that the story fro this particular film will be derived from the ‘Planet of the Symbiotes‘ and ‘Lethal Protectorcomic storylines. We’ve only just recently seen the first image from the film, along with hearing rumors that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man might make a cameo, but and this first trailer does a good job of teasing the film, while also keeping things fairly under wraps for the time being

It’s interesting, because these two storylines paint Venom as an ant-hero with a little more humanity rather than your classic villain, so it’ll be interesting to see how the film handles this aspect of the character. The last time we’ve seen Eddie Brock on the big screen, he was portrayed by Topher Grace in ‘Spider-Man 3‘, to mostly unfavorable reception. Although I still don’t understand this casting decision in it’s entirety, director Sam Rami was essentially forced to integrate the character into the plot of that film, even though he was against the idea and they were already shooting.

Flescher’s interpretation of the character probably won’t fall into the same trap, since–well the movie’s called ‘Venom‘, but there are certainly a lot of ways that this movie could go belly-up of certain aspects aren’t handled properly. Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, and Reid Scott co-star with Hardy. The film opens October 9, 2018, but in the meantime, here’s the first trailer, along with a vague synopsis and the new Poster for ‘Venom‘ below:
