First Image Released for Netflix’s ‘Sabrina The Teenage Witch’ Reboot

Netflix’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot seems to be on track. Netflix gave the Sabrina reboot a 20-episode, two-season, straight-to-series order late last year and the series already has found its Sabrina Spellman in Mad Men‘s Kiernan Shipka. Today the first image from the series was released.

Archie Comics chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa posted the image (below) on twitter.

With the posted image, Aguirre-Sacasa provided the caption:

Ladies and gentlemen, meet #Greendale’s latest resident. All hail, Salem! #sabrina, #netflix.

In the 90s series of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Salem was memorably an animatronic character, the series was also a sitcom starring Melissa Joan Hart as Sabrina. This new series is said to be something along the lines of Riverdale – which is a television series also based on a comic book – and will have a darker tone. It’s also believed to have visual and tonal references to horror classics like Rosemary’s Baby, The Exorcist, and other genre films.

In the comic, the series followed Sabrina, a “half-witch” – her mother was human and father was a witch – who lives with her two aunts who also happen to be witches and the family pet cat, Salem, who is too a witch that was turned into a cat as punishment for world domination attempts. The location of the series takes place in the fictional town of Greendale, which is located somewhere near Riverdale. A perfect reason for a crossover is CW and Netflix can make a deal in the future.
