Romanian Boxer Florian Munteanu to Play Ivan Drago’s Son in ‘Creed 2’

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have found their Drago of the Creed franchise. According to Tracking Board, Romanian boxer Florian Munteanu has signed on to Creed 2 to play the son of Ivan Drago. The 27 year old Munteanu is known as “Big Nasty” in the boxing world and an official Under Armour pro athlete. appeared in a short film titled Bogat.

Though the plot of the film is kept under wraps, we can imagine that Michael B. Jordan’s character Adonis Johnson, whose the son of Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) in the Rocky films, will step into the ring to avenge his father’s death. In Rocky IV, the Russian Ivan Drago portrayed by Dolph Lundgren, killed Apollo during a bout.

Part of this is an interesting idea but there’s also a part of me that thinks that this is just a remake of Rocky IV where Rocky Balboa avenges the death of his rival then friend Apollo Creed.

Dolph Lundgren is set to reprise his role in addition to Sylvester Stallone, Tessa Thompson and of course, Michael B. Jordan.

The first Creed film was earned Stallone an Oscar nomination for Actor in a Supporting Role.

Steven Caple Jr. will direct the film which was written by Stallone and Cheo Hodari Coker. Creed 2 has a release date of Nov. 21, 2018.
