‘Mission: Impossible 6’ Images Tease Henry Cavill’s Mustache, Upcoming Trailer

Mission: Impossible 6‘ is easily one of my most anticipated films of this year. The sequel to 2015’s stellar ‘Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation‘, the film sees the return of writer/director Christopher McQuarrie to the director’s chair. Although this marks the first time that a director has returned to the franchise after their first outing, don’t expect this film to be anything like ‘Rogue Nation’. McQuarrie has been pretty open about the fact that the only reason he came back for a sequel was to do something different this time around, so the helmer’s return shouldn’t interfere with producer/star Tom Cruise‘s plans to have each film a standalone piece. The production of ‘Mission: Impossible 6‘ hasn’t been without it’s problems, however. In July of last year, Cruise injured his ankle while performing a stunt, causing the production schedule of the film to be delayed significantly. Then there’s the whole fiasco concerning the mustache of Henry Cavill, whose role has yet to be revealed (he’s probably the film’s villain).

With a looming July 27th release date, it’s surprising that we’ve only seen a few teases with no trailer. It’s pretty much the same scenario that McQuarrie and co. were put into when ‘Rogue Nation‘ had it’s own delays (the first trailer for that came out about 3 month’s before it’s release after it got pushed forward six months), so I’m sure that Paramount is feeling okay about their release window at this point. Now, McQuarrie has released another batch of images from the film (via his Instagram), including a tease for the first trailer as well as Henry Cavill’s mustache posing with the camera on set. #Finishing touches…

A post shared by Christopher McQuarrie (@christophermcquarrie) on

The first image is most likely from the trailer itself, as the moody contrast feels like something that is a little more cinematic than the other two. I’m pretty excited to see the return of Isla Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) in the film, so this image in particular has me pumped. The second image features Cavill posing in what is pretty clearly a behind the scenes shot (the camera kinda gives that one away). The third–which is the tease of the trailer itself–is the most intriguing, not because of the picture itself, but for the guessing game that immediately begins when we start to try and figure out when we’re actually gonna get this thing.

The natural guess is that we’ll be seeing the first teaser trailer for ‘Mission: Impossible 6‘ sometime during the super bowl. That game is roughly about ten days away, which makes sense if they’re just putting the “finishing touches” on the trailer now. We could potentially see the trailer before something like ‘Black Panther‘ or Alex Garland’s ‘Annihilation‘ next month, but my money is on former of these three options. Until then, we’ll have to keep guessing.
