Leonardo DiCaprio in Talks for Tarantino’s Manson Murder Film

Leonardo DiCaprio may soon be reunited with director Quentin Tarantino. According to THR, the Oscar-winning actor who starred in Tarantino’s 2012 ‘Django Unchained is in talks to sign on for a role in Tarantino’s next film based on the Manson family murders.

The upcoming film is said to be something along the lines of an ‘Inglorious Bastards’-style in the sense that it is loosely based on a tragic and world changing moment in history. In 1969, Charles Manson ordered his group of followers known as the Manson Family to invade the 10050 Cielo Drive home in Los Angeles and murder whomever was there and to make it look like it was the beginning of a race war. At the time the home belonged to director Roman Polanski and his pregnant wife Sharon Tate. The Manson family broke into the home and tortured and murdered Sharon Tate, her unborn child, and three of Tate’s friends, Jay Sebring, Wojciech Frykowski and Abigail Folger. Polanski was in Europe working on a film at the time of the murders. The murders were also known as the death of the “free love hippie” era.

The film will be developed by Sony after they won the rights to Tarantino’s future projects. Tarantino will also produce the film with David Heyman and Shannon McIntosh. Plot details are being kept under tight wraps at this point. We do know that Tarantino has approached Margot Robbie for the role of Sharon Tate, and that he is also eyeing Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise for crucial, but unspecified roles. But other than this we don’t really know that much. Considering that one of Tarantino’s early drafts of ‘The Hateful Eight‘ was hacked last time he was developing a film, it’s not surprising that things are being kept so hush-hush this time around.

Quentin Tarantino is still a busy man these days, as he is also developing a ‘Star Trek‘ film with J.J. Abrams. The film is set for release on Aug. 9, 2019 which also happens to be the fiftieth anniversary of the Tate murders. Sony has yet to comment on the Leonardo DiCaprio rumors, but we should hear a confirmation soon as the film moves closer to production.
