‘Ocean’s 8’ Trailer and Poster Gives First Look at Spinoff

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer and poster for the upcoming ‘Ocean’s 8’ spinoff film, and it sure looks like a fun ride. Directed by Gary Ross, the film stars Sandra Bullock as Danny Ocean’s (long lost?) sister. In case you were unaware, ‘Ocean’s 8‘ follows Debbie Ocean. As she too is finally released from prison, Debbie sets out to plan an elaborate heist, along with a little help.

Surprisingly, the idea to create a spinoff film came from a brainstorm session that included Steven Soderbergh, George Clooney, and the late, great producer Jerry Weintraub back in 2015. ‘Oceans 8‘ has been in development since October 2015, when Ross (who is good friends with Soderbergh) and Bullock joined the project. It seems that the idea behind the spinoff film is to re-start the franchise with a new, fresh cast.

Based on the trailer, is seems that the film might just be able to bring the level of fun and charm that the Soderbergh’s ‘Ocean’s 11‘ was able to in that remake. In addition to Bullock, the film stars Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, and Richard Armitage. With such an impressive cast, this film could be a fresh return to form with the franchise, or is might prove to have middling results, such as with the recent ‘Ghostbusters‘ remake. There’s obviously a lot more going on here with ‘Ocean’s 8‘, so it should be interesting to see how audiences respond to the film when it comes out June 8, 2018.

Oscar winner Sandra Bullock stars in the title role, alongside Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, with Rihanna and Oscar nominee Helena Bonham Carter. Oscar-nominated filmmaker Gary Ross is directing.
