Netflix Casts Its ‘Umbrella Academy’ Family

A little less than a month ago Netflix had announced that X-Men star Ellen Page had signed on to the upcoming The Umbrella Academy series to play the role of Vanya Hargreeves aka The White Violin. Now Netflix has added five more actors to the Hargreeves family.

From left to right:

Aidan Gallagher (Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn) will play Number Five: At the age of 10, The Boy travelled 50 years into the future in which Sir Reginald warned him that he could never go back. After 50 more years, Number Five finds a way to return but returns to the current date in his 10 year old state despite the rest of his siblings aging at a normal rate, now 30. Due to the time travel The Boy does not age.

Robert Sheehan (Misfits) will play Klaus aka The Séance: Has the powers of levitation, telekinesis, and can contact the dead. The only way he is able to use his abilities is if he is not wearing shoes. He was killed and rejected from Heaven and Hell.

Emmy Raver-Lampman (Hamilton) will play Allison aka The Rumor: The narcissistic Rumor has the ability to turn lies into truth. As a child, she had a cybernetic hand. After a divorce, she has a romantic relationship with her adopted brother Spaceboy.

David Castaneda (Jane the Virgin) will play Diego aka The Kraken: The rebellion and reckless member of the group has the ability to hold his breath indefinitely, is pretty handy with throwing daggers and has no sight in his right eye. He and Spaceboy often combat one another. The character is like a hybrid of Batman and Wolverine.

Tom Hopper (Game of Thrones) will play Luther aka Spaceboy, the leader of the group. After a disastrous expedition to Mars, The Monocle had to transplant Luther’s head to a Gorilla body. The gorilla body can withstand  the vacuum and cold of space as long as he has a helmet on. He has enhanced strength and resilience and often uses a jetpack and a ray-gun. Luther is the twin brother of Number Five.

A couple other members of the Hargreeves family that has not been cast is Sir Reginald Hargreeves aka The Monocle who is also the one who adopted all of the children and took them in along with his assistant Dr. Pogo.

The Umbrella Academy will be produced by Universal Cable Productions. Steve Blackman (Fargo) will serve as executive producer and show runner. Gerard Way who created the comic book published by Dark Horse will serve as co-executive producer.
