Netflix has added the first member to the live-adaption of Dark Horse’s The Umbrella Academy and it’s Juno star Ellen Page.

The Umbrella Academy was created by former My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way back in 2007. The Umbrella Academy was a darker more goth version of something like Marvel’s X-Men. It was a series about a family of siblings that were born with extraordinary powers. The children are taken in by Sir Reginald Hargreeves aka The Monocle, which is an alien disguised as an entrepreneur. He raises them to save the world from possible destruction. The series was illustrated by Gabriel Bá and had two story main arcs (Apocalypse Suite and Dallas).

Ellen Page is set to play Vanya Hargreeves aka The White Violin who is an estranged member of the group and acted as a villain in the first series. This will be the second time that Page is involved in a live-action project based on a comic book. The actress appeared in Fox’s X-Men franchise (X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: Days of Futures Past).

As a huge My Chemical Romance, I read this back in 2007 and absolutely loved the series. I even followed the spinoff stories which were released in Dark Horse Presents and a Free Comic Book Day story. It became my all-time favorite comic book series.

Steve Blackman (Fargo) will run the show and executive produce alongside Way. The series will be 10 episodes and will come sometime in 2018.
