Jude Law is about the enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Variety is reporting that the Jude Law is in final negotiations to play Mar-Vell in the upcoming ‘Captain Marvel‘ film from Marvel Studios. Although details of the role are naturally being kept under wraps, we do know a decent amount about the movie itself.
We already know that Brie Larson will star as the title character. We also know that the film is a 90’s period piece, and that Samuel L. Jackson will return to the MCU as a pre-eyepatch wearing Nick Fury. And finally, we know that the Skulls will be involved in some capacity in the film, with Ben Mendelsohn playing their yet-to-be revealed leader.
Law will be portraying Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, who becomes a mentor to Danvers as she discovers her new powers. Although Jude Law doesn’t really fit the comic book interpretation of the character from a physical perspective, Marvel’s casting has pretty much been spot-on thus far, so I have faith. This also happens to be the second major franchise role that Jude Law has snagged in the past few weeks, with him also playing young Dumbledore in the ‘Fantastic Beasts‘ Sequel.
‘Captain Marvel‘ is set to be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, with the latest draft of the script being re-written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider reboot). The film is currently set for release on March 8, 2019.
