‘The Shape of Water’ Gets New Release Date in One State

The upcoming and highly anticipated creature love story, The Shape of Water from Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim, Pan’s Labyrinth) has received a new release date. The catch? The date change is only in one state.

Fox Searchlight has announced that New Yorkers (and anyone who happens to be in New York at the time) will get to see the film December 1 while the rest of America will have to wait until December 8 to watch. (Some markets will have later release dates).

There’s no explanation on why the release date was moved up a week for only New York but I’m sure there had to be some good reason behind the change.

The Shape of Water is an other-worldly fable, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment. Rounding out the cast are Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Doug Jones.
