It’s official, we are living in the Upside Down. Well okay…maybe not. But it sure does feel like it! The very popular streaming service Netflix has announced that they will be bumping up the price of their standard and premium subscriptions.
Netflix confirmed that they will stream shows and movies in HD on up to two screens at once at $10.99 monthly, up from $9.99. The premium service, which provides viewing on up to four screens (plus ultra HD content access), is up a whole two dollars from $11.99 to $13.99. The only subscription not affected is the basic service which only allows you to view movies and shows on one screen at once. That will remain at $7.99.
This is the second price raise in as many years. Last year Netflix raised its standard subscription from $8.99 to $9.99. This is also the second huge announcement regarding a huge change to its streaming service. Earlier this year, Disney announced that they will pull their films from the streaming service to start their own streaming service.
The company will notify users of the new pricing changes 30 days in advanced before the changes take effect. The pricing will change October 19. The date raises a flag for Netflix subscribers that happen to be huge Stranger Things fans.
Stranger Things 2, the sequel/second season to the popular series, will debut October 27. Just eight days after the price raise. Stranger Things is arguably the most successful Netflix series to date and Netflix is highly aware of its quick popularity.
On the business side of things, it’s a good move for Netflix to bank off of the release of season two of one of its most popular shows. While on the other side of things, subscribers aren’t too happy about the price hike and understandably so.
