‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ – What We’ve Learned Thus Far

The long awaited sequel to Red Dead Redemption has been in the works both secretively and not as secretively as Rockstar Games may have thought. For about a year, gamers were guessing that it was either Grand Theft Auto VII or a Red Dead sequel that Rockstar had been working on. Earlier this year Rockstar had finally announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 was coming. At one point the sequel even had a Fall 2017 release. The date has since been pushed back to Spring of 2018 (which isn’t too far away) but Rockstar was at least nice enough to release a new trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 as soon as Fall hit and here it is!

Here’s what we’ve learned about Red Dead Redemption 2 so far:

It’s a prequel. Even though it’s has a “2” in the title it’s said to be a prequel and will take place before the events in the first game.

You’ll play as a new protagonist. Players will be able to play as Morgan, a wanted man, an outlaw and member of the Van der Linde gang. The gang is led by Dutch who also appeared in the first game. John Marston, the protagonist in the first game was also a former member of the Van der Linde gang. Chances are we may see him or at least hear of him somewhere in the sequel.

There’s more than just guns. In the trailer we see the character use a bow and arrow while hunting. In the previous game, you were not given the option to do so.

Available on Playstation 4 and Xbox One. No word on if it will be available for PC.

Still no exact release date. Some of you (including myself) may have expected a release date at the end of the trailer but hopes were shot down as quickly as you could shutdown bad guys with the red dead aim. For now we just know it will be a Spring release.
