‘Insidious: The Last Key’ Trailer

James Wans‘ cinematic universe just keeps on expanding.  Following the success of this years prequel/sequel Annabelle: Creation, Insidious: The Last Key is the fourth film in the ongoing Insidious series, and part of the ever-growing Conjuring/Insidious/James Wan universe.  Although not specified, in my mind the Conjuring and Insidious franchises feel like they take place in the same world.  We have our first trailer for the upcoming sequel, and things are looking spooky.

Like Insidious 3, The Last Key is a prequel set years before the original 2011 film.  The story follows Elise Rainier, played by the powerful Lin Shaye as she is embarks on another albeit very personal haunting in her family home.  The new film looks like it will be exploring Elise’s past and further unravel her story in this crazy world of supernatural horrors.

The possibilities for these sequels seems endless, and it will be interesting to see if the filmmakers can keep it feeling fresh.  Director Adam Robitel is stepping into the directors chair, with only one other film- The Taking of Deborah Logan-under his belt. Writer/producer and director of the third film Leigh Whannell once again wrote the script and returns as Specs, part of Elise’ paranormal investigative team often brought in for a bit of levity.
