‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ Waits to Cancel the Apocalypse (For a Month)

‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ is getting delayed for another month. Variety is reporting that Legendary/Universal will be moving the film’s release date back a month to March 23, 2018. The previous Release date exactly a month earlier was the latest in a string of release date changes that span both 2017 and early 2018.

Steven S. DeKnight steps into the directors chair, with a script that was co-written with Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder, and T.S. Nowlin, from a story by Guillermo del Toro. The film stars John BoyegaScott EastwoodTian JingCharlie DayAdria ArjonaBurn Gorman, and Rinko Kikuchi in the sequel.

‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ was shot in both Australia and China. But the new release date will ensure that the film has stiff competition at a loaded box-office weekend. Five other releases, including a slew of animated features, are set to come out on that weekend. While my excitement for the film remains reserved for the trailer, I can’t help but be enthused about returning to the world of Pacific Rim again.

Here’s the synopsis from the recruitment page:

It’s been ten years since The Battle of the Breach and the oceans are still, but restless. Vindicated by the victory at the Breach, the Jaeger program has evolved into the most powerful global defense force in human history. The PPDC now calls upon the best and brightest to rise up and become the next generation of heroes. When the Kaiju threat returns, we will be ready.
