Carrying over from the first film, Guardians of the Galaxy has set a pretty high standard when it comes to marketing. We are introduced to a lot of new characters and concepts in this new trailer, but overall we still have no idea what film is actually about. In my opinion, that is exactly what a marketing campaign for a film should be. Throughout this trailer we are reminded exactly why we love this core group of characters while simultaneously introducing some new of the new key players. We get to see Mantis all up in the action, Nebula possibly joining the guardians (or kill them, it goes back and forth) and Michael Rooker’s return as Yondu. And lets not forget the end reveal of Kurt Russell, introduced as Peter Quills’ father.

Now their has been some slight negative feedback when it comes to the Kurt Russell reveal at the end of the trailer, which is pretty much to be expected given the “fans” troll the internet. But within 12 hours of the trailer dropping, Director James Gunn took to twitter and reassured fans that this was no massive spoiler. Actually the clip is supposedly from the beginning of the film and sets up the actual major overarching plot, which we still no very little about. Fans can come up with all sorts of connections and theories but the truth of the matter is that this is fresh material written up by Gunn himself. Despite whatever source material may have inspired him, we are getting a James Gunn Guardians of The Galaxy story and I personally couldn’t be more excited.
