Just 48 hours after Michael Bay released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Transformers sequel, “The Last Knight” has already received over 100 million views. Thats almost 21,000 (20,833.3 to be exact) people per hour watching this trailer! 347 people per minute! But enough of the mind blowing mathematics. Lets take a look at what is making this trailer so popular.

The final shot of the trailer when Optimus Prime whips out his blade and appears to gut Bumblebee. I don’t care if they are just giant CGI robots, all the feels are there (kevin smith fans know what i’m saying).
I think many would argue that there is nothing all that compelling about 5th Transformers movie, directed by the king of explosions, Michael Bay. In fact many fans would argue the transformers franchise would be in better hands with a different director, one with a more unique sci-fi vision, and maybe a proclivity towards cars..(Justin Lin I’m looking at you buddy).
Having said that, this movie cannot come to fast enough. I know all the criticisms of Michael Bay and polarizing opinions surrounding the Transformers franchise. This gives Bay a chance come back to the directors chair one more time and his reign on a good note, which is what many believe he should of done after the third film in the franchise, ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’. As a fan of the franchise I thought Transformers 3 was a great ending to a decent trilogy. Even if you hate transformers, the special effects alone are reason enough to check this movie out. And 3D fans are definitely in for a treat.It just sucks that ‘Transformers 4: Age of Excitation’ felt like a step backwards in every way possible. Even the promise of dinobots couldn’t save that film. Thats not to say it wasn’t a huge financial success, but its fair to say the majority of movie-goers did not enjoy this film. It currently sits at 10% on rotten tomatoes.
Despite the four previous movies earning mixed-to-negative critical responses, the Transformers franchise remains one of the more lucrative in the 21st century. The films have collectively brought in $3.7 billion worldwide, and these trailer numbers indicate The Last Knight is a threat to punch its ticket to the $1 billion club when it premieres next summer. That’s an encouraging sign for Paramount, since they have a Bumblebee spinoff planned for 2018 and Transformers 6 coming through the pipeline in 2019. Interest in the brand has to stay high in order for their plan to take full effect.
