We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction. Overall I think I like this trailer more than I expected to. I still wouldn’t say I am excited for this upcoming and unnecessary sequel to Independence Day, but the more they show me, the more intrigued I become.I really like the idea that after 20 years of reverse-engineering the alien technology and creating a global defense system, it seems as though that same technology is going to lead to the Earth’s destruction. Not the most original idea, but it’s more than plausible.

Besides seeing the magnetic Jeff Goldblum and a quick glance of Bill Pullman, no one in the cast really gets my mojo going. Liam Hemsworth might be the nicest guy in Hollywood but he is as stiff as a board in everything he is in. I am also annoyed by the need to add what appears to be Will Smith”s original characters son into the mix. I know it makes sense to try and tie it all together, but the idea of his kid becoming a fighter pilot that is crucial to the saving the Earth is beyond unreal for me. I have no problem suspending disbelief in alien destruction flick, but don’t make it harder with ridiculous character ties. I do realize this is probably not n issue for most of you, just a personal gripe I have. That’s ok.

We also see the return of..Brent Spiner? Wait, didn’t he die in the first movie? Pretty sure he was killed off. See this is the stupid character stuff I am talking about!
