From J. Jonah Jameson to Commissioner James Gordon: J.K. Simmons Gets Cast in ‘Justice League’

It looks like Spider-Man actor J.K. Simmons will be trading in his cigar for a police badge, as it has been reported that the Oscar-winning actor has been cast to star as Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming Justice League film.

Simmons is no stranger to the world of comic book film adaptations as he played the role of Peter Parker’s boss, J. Jonah Jameson, in all three of Sam Rami’s Spider-Man films. Simmons also isn’t a stranger to the DC Comics world. The actor provided the voice for several characters in the animated Justice League TV series and would again lend his voice for animated Batman: The Brave and Bold TV series.

Gotham City’s Commissioner Gordon has been played by several different actors on TV and film over the years. Gary Oldman last played the character on the big screen in Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, and Ben McKenzie is currently playing the character on Fox’s hit series Gotham, which tells the story of a young Commissioner Gordon struggling to fight crime in a pre-Batman Gotham.

Justice League Part One will start shooting in mid-April and has a release date of Nov. 17, 2017. J.K. Simmons will join a star-studded cast featuring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher.
