The popular 90’s children’s TV series, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers is coming back and in the biggest way possible. Lionsgate and Saban Brands are rebooting the hit series by bringing it to the big screen. The upcoming film will follow a five teenagers, who learn that they need to ban together to protect the city of Angel Grove (and the world) from alien threats.  Today the first image of the team together, was released by Entertainment Weekly.

In the image above, you see: RJ Cyler as Billy, Naomi Scott as Kimberly, Ludin Lin as Zack, Dacre Montgomery as Jason and Becky G as Trini.

The basis of the story remains the same but the cast for this new film, has been changed up quite a bit. Though the cast of the series has always been very diverse, the cast of the original series was sometimes the butt of jokes with racial stereotypes. This time around, director Dean Israelite wanted to make sure that racial stereotypes wouldn’t be an issue. Israelite told EW that he wanted this superhero story to reflect the lives of teens today.

“From the very beginning, diversity was a very important part of the whole process,” he said. “We switched all of the races around, but we made sure that the essence of each of those characters are who they were in the original show, and this really will be an origin story of those characters.”

Power Rangers will also star Elizabeth Banks as the villain, Rita Repulsa. The film is set to hit theaters March 24, 2017.
