Watch Full-2.5 Hour DGA Talk About Directing

In case you happen to have two and a half hours lying around, or happen to be a student of cinema like myself, then this 2.5-hour video featuring all of the directing nominees in one place a must-watch. Last weekend, the Director’s Guild handed out their coveted trophy, awarding Alejandro G. Inarritu for an unprecedented second year in row for his direction on The Revenant. While DGA-2016-6-620x348attending the ceremony, all of this year’s directing nominees were invited to take part in an extensive Q&A about each of their respective works this year, along with how they individually approach the craft of directing.

The nominees that appear in the video, along with Inarritu, are George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road), Ridley Scott (The Martian), Adam McKay (The Big Short), Tom McCarthy (Spotlight). The video covers all aspects of the filmmaking, from development, to pre-production and production, all the way through post-production. The DGA was able to bring all of the year’s best directors into one room, and it is quite glorious. Perhaps the most interesting tidbits come from George Miller & Ridley Scott, who are aways fascinating people to explore.

If there’s anything to be learned from awards ceremonies such as these, it’s how these people made the movies that got them nominated in the first place. So, dig in to the video below (via The Film Stage), because it’s going to be quite a long ride.
