‘Gods of Egypt’ International Trailer

Alex Proyas is such an oddity as a filmmaker. Not only does he make a film about every 4-6 years (last directorial effort was 2009’s Knowing), but his style can’t be pinned down to one particular thing. There has been one seeming constant as his career went on, a steady decrease in the quality of his films with each entry in his filmography. His forthcoming film, Gods of Egypt, looks to continue this trend of decreasing
quality. It almost looks as bad as the trailer for Ridley Scott’s Exodus.

Granted, Gods of Egypt looks much better in the sense that it’s so bad that it’s good. I don’t know if the film will have a self aware mentality, as this trailer seems fairly serious, but I just hope that the films will embrace it’s destined cheesiness. If anything else, you’ll get to see Gerard Butler ham it up for two hours. Check out the trailer below, along with the official synopsis.

Here’s the synopsis for Gods of Egypt:

In this spectacular action-adventure inspired by the classic mythology of Egypt, the survival of mankind hangs in the balance as an unexpected mortal hero Bek [Brenton Thwaites] undertakes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. In order to succeed, he must enlist the help of the powerful god Horus [Nikolaj Coster-Waldau] in an unlikely alliance against Set [Gerard Butler], the merciless god of darkness, who has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict.  As their breathtaking battle against Set and his henchmen takes them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the epic final confrontation.

Gods of Egypt bursts into theaters on February 26, 2016.
