’12 Days of Deadpool’ Begins With New Poster

Deadpool has had one of the most uniquely thought out marketing campaigns in recent memory. Not only are they teasing a faithful version of Deadpool that fans (including myself) have been clamoring to see, but they’re also brilliantly giving non-fans a taste of what the character is all about. We’ve heard a lot about the production of the film, and we’ve even seen a good amount of footage. What happened when filming was completed however, was pure brilliance on the part of Ryan Reynolds.

deadpool-ryan-reynolds-morena-baccarin-600x400Reynolds loved playing the character so much that he essentially just kept his Deadpool costume. While I’m sure that he caught flak from the studio for this, it allowed Reynolds to keep playing the character as a means of promoting the film’s release. We have seen a handful of videos promoting the character up to this point, but the marketing has finally kicked into full effect with what is being called “12 Days of Deadpool”. The event begins with the reveal of a new poster (shown below), followed by a new reveal every day. The culmination of the “12 days of Deadpool” will concede with what is sure to be the final trailer.

Check out the announcement video, along with my thoughts below:

With all of that said, will all of this promotion be in vein? As much as I deadpool-international-posterwant to see this film succeed financially, I just can’t get the sneaking suspicion out of my head that this film is going to be a massive flop with audiences. Don’t get me wrong, I have full faith that Deadpool will be a good, possibly even great movie. Does that mean that it will be successful? Most likely not. Think about it: It’s a hard-R rated, features a main character who breaks the fourth wall with obscenities towards the audience, and  the level of public awareness about Deadpool as a character isn’t as high as we would like it to be. Granted, these types of marketing events are meant to raise awareness about the film. I can’t help but think that at then end of the day, It will all be for nothing.

Only time can tell, as the film is less than three months for it’s February 12, 2016 release date.
