REEDPOP AND BROOKLYN BREWERY UNLEASH SPECIALLY CRAFTED BEER FOR NEW YORK SUPER WEEK AND THE 10TH EDITION OF NEW YORK COMIC CON

NORWALK, CT – August 27, 2015 – ReedPOP, the world’s largest producer of pop culture events, and Brooklyn Brewery today announced the launch of the  2015 Brooklyn Defender IPA – an exclusive brew created as the Official Beer of New York Super Week and this year’s New York Comic Con. The beer will be available in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut this September with a first-ever national distribution to follow in more than 20 states later in the year. This year’s introduction of the new IPA also marks the fourth installment of the Brooklyn Defender – the beer’s official superhero – created by renowned artist Khary Randolph.

The Brooklyn Defender IPA is a “superpowered beer” that will maintain constant vigilance to battle back the blandness lurking around the edges. This year’s rendition will be introduced at a release party at Brooklyn Brewery on September 9 and will be available for the first time bottled, as well as on tap. The Brooklyn Defender will then ‘hop’ into select bars and restaurants across the Tri-State area in preparation for New York Super Week, taking place October 5-11 and leading into the 10th Edition of New York Comic Con, October 8-11 at the Javits Center. Following New York Super Week, the Brooklyn Defender IPA will make its debut across the country in 2016.

“This year’s Brooklyn Defender is a bright, juicy IPA with a reddish twist from a dash of roasted malt and matched the flavor packed by Randolph’s exquisite design,” Garrett Oliver, Brewmaster of Brooklyn Brewery explains. “We have been working with New York Comic Con for four years now and are really excited for the rest of the country to finally be able to experience the new Brooklyn Defender and its unique taste and look!”

In celebration of the East Coast’s largest and most heroic pop culture festival, renowned comic book artist Khary Randolph (Spider-Man, X-Men, Hellboy, Boondocks) crafted the bold spirit of the 2015 Brooklyn Defender to embody the modern superhero and athlete. The Defender looks like the everyday man, but is much more as he defends civilians against tasteless beer.

“The new Brooklyn Defender is the modern Brooklyn hero, saving many from dangerously bland nights,” explains Randolph. “He embodies Brooklyn and the Ft. Greene/Clinton Hills neighborhoods – reflecting the sports and hip hop cultures that are prevalent there. The Brooklyn Defender uses his athleticism and artistic prowess to defend beer and all those who stand behind it!”

“With New York celebrating the 10th Edition of New York Comic Con, the Brooklyn Defender beer and superhero is the ideal way to kick off New York Super Week,” said Lance Fensterman, Global Senior Vice President of ReedPOP. “Brooklyn Brewery’s creation and Khary’s depiction of the modern day Brooklyn superhero brings beer and comics together perfectly and embodies what New York Super Week and New York Comic Con are meant to be.”

The Brooklyn Defender will protect New York from boring beverages at their release party at the Brooklyn Brewery on Wednesday, September 9 from 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM. For more information and to RSVP visit NewYorkComicCon.com/Defender.
