Beloved Horror Icon Wes Craven Dead At Age 76

We are shocked and deeply saddened to report that iconic film director, writer, producer and actor Wes Craven has passed away at the age of 76. Multiple sources are claiming that Craven was battling brain cancer at the time of his passing and died at his home in Los Angeles.

Craven is beloved by fans of horror as he is responsible for creating one of the most recognizable characters in the genre with Freddy Kruger and the “Nightmare on Elm Street” film franchise. His other well-known films include “Last House on The Left”, “The People Under The Stairs”, “Swamp Thing”, “The Hills Have Eyes” and of course the beloved first four “Scream” films.  He also directed the film “Music Of The Heart”, stepping completely outside of the horror genre which led to an Oscar nomination for actress Meryl Steep for her role in the film.

Craven’s most recent film was 2010’s “My Soul To Take” and he had recently signed a deal with Universal Cable Productions with multiple projects still currently in development. Those include “People Under The Stairs” with Syfy Networks, “Disciples” with UCP, “We Are All Completely Fine” with Syfy/UCP and “Sleepers” with Federation Entertainment. He was also serving as executive producer on the new “Scream” TV series for MTV and had just recently completed writing a segment, which he was slated to direct for the upcoming WGN America series “Ten Commandments”.

Our sincere condolences go out to Wes Craven’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. The film world has lost yet another true icon … may he rest in peace!
