First Official Trailer of Upcoming Biopic ‘Steve Jobs’

Based on this trailer alone, I’m guessing the people at Apple can’t be happy.  ‘Steve Jobs‘ is a dramatized account of events surrounding the Apple co-founder’s launch of a number of iconic products, beginning with the iMac in 1998. Although many at execs at Apple are probably concerned over the public opinion this film may cause, this highly controversial biopic focusing on the technology giant, will in all likely hood have a 0% effect on Apple or their consumers. Still there is no denying that this movie has some serious talent behind it.

Directed by Danny Boyle, best known for his Academy Award in Directing for Slumdog Millionaire, and written by Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin. Boyle has assembled an all-star cast including Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, and Seth Rogen, among many others.  CHECK OUT THE FIRST OFFICIAL TRAILER RIGHT HERE!

It’s no secret screenwriter Aaron Sorkin has very little love for “Silicon Valley”, and the trailer is packed with jabs at Mr. Jobs. The film is based on a book of the same title, written by Walter Isaacson and transitioned for the big screen by Aaron Sorkin. Sorkin earned his Academy Award for a similar project, The Social Network, which unapologetically tell the story of Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. After seeing this trailer, that is pretty much what I would  like this project to reflect.

Wether you agree with the angle the film is taking or not, there is no denying this is a well cut trailer. The music, the pacing, the cuts; this is one of the best edited trailers I have seen in awhile. I base that on the fact that I had very little interest in this film and now after viewing the trailer I find myself quite intrigued. What exactly made him such an @sshole?

Personally I could care less about the accuracy, I just want to see a good film. There are elements of this trailer that remind me of The Social Network combined with a slight Wolf of Wall Street vibe. Granted this film does not include the director from either film, but it does share some common elements. Both films are biopics based on books adopted for the screen by Aaron Sorkin. Also according to IMDB,

David Fincher was originally attached to direct, but was dropped from the film by Sony after his demands – a $10,000,000 salary and full creative control of the project – could not be met by the studio. Fincher wanted Christian Bale to play the lead role. After his departure, Danny Boyle signed on to direct and Leonardo DiCaprio was approached about the title role. Ultimately, however, DiCaprio passed on the project and Christian Bale was offered it instead. However, Bale also declined the role, feeling he was not right for the part after which Michael Fassbender entered to star in the film.

At the end of the day, the old mantra holds true; “Any publicity, is good publicity”. This is the third movie focusing on the life of Steve Jobs, and there has yet to be any correlation between the films and Apple stock. Realistically nothing about this film will prevent me from leaving the theater, using my iPhone and coming home to type my review on iMac. Thoughts?
