Final Fantastic Four Trailer

The Final Fantastic Four Trailer had dropped, and it features a good chunk of footage that we not seen from any of the trailers past. While the trailer excises the more spoiler-y plot elements, you can be assured that this film will feature yet another origin story from the looks of things. The new trailer-which premiered at SDCC’15-showcases plenty of new footage, including what are sure to be flashback scenes with Reed Richards and Ben Grimm as children as well as new footage of Dr. Doom in action. Check out the trailer, along with my thoughts afterward.

This final fantastic Fantastic Four trailer seems to have done nothing but have me more mixed on the film than I have ever been before. I really love the look and style that Trank is going for, but I can’t help but think that this film will end up being one of the bigger disappointments of the summer.

The film has been long rumored to have had a multitude of production problems (which eventually got him fired from a Star Wars anthology film). The fact that Fox has kept such a a low marketing profile with the film and essentially made the reboot to avoid the rights reverting back to Marvel in the first place has made me very skeptical of the finished product. This combination of factors, along with the idea that all of the marketing for the film has been nothing that I really haven’t seen before leaves me hoping that I will be pleasently surprised come August.

Here’s the synopsis for Fantastic Four:

FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

The Fantastic Four reboot was directed Josh Trank and will hit theaters on August 7, 2015.
