Will Deadpool be Family Friendly?

On a day full of Internet hoaxes and fake news stories we got one piece of official  news surrounding the upcoming Deadpool film. We have be hearing a debate back and forth for sometime now surrounding what the rating will be for the film. Although most fans of the franchise would prefer to see the film stay true to the character and take the R-rating, that decision could really minimize theater profits and prevent younger fans (target demographic?) from seeing the film.

Now just days after getting an official glimpse of actor Ryan Reynolds in his Deadpool costume, we get another look at the lead star all suited up. Even better is this time we see the iconic character actually in motion and interacting with others (sort of…).

In this video originally posted by JoBlo Mario Lopez talks to Ryan Reynolds, and addresses the concerns of a PG-13 rating, and the effect that will have on the film. Lopez and Reynolds discuss the need to make sure the film appeals to families, and really hits all demographics. Check it out right here!

Do you get it? Huh? APRIL FOOLS!

So obviously this turned out to be an April Fools prank, poking fun at the idea of a family friendly Deadpool.  This video is a great piece of marketing and very fitting for Deadpool to make an official announcement on April Fools’ Day. With all of the other annoying April Fools Day articles floating around the web, its nice to see a someone use the holiday to come up with a clever piece of marketing.

Not only was the video entertaining but it was quite informative. Based on this video we now know that film for certain will have an R-Rating.  They acknowledge the fact that Ryan Reynolds first played Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins:Wolverine, while simultaneously trying to distance itself from the film. And of course Deadpool breaks the fourth wall after violently killing Mario Lopez and makes a killer Saved by the Bell reference.

Following the release of the video and official conformation, Reynolds took to Twitter, giving up a few more details.

Deadpool will be directed by Tim Miller and stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool/Wade Wilson, Morena Baccarin as Copycat, and T.J. Miller as Weasel. The film comes from a script co-written by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, Fabian Nicieza, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick.

Just to get an idea of where Deadpool fits into FOX’s larger Marvel Universe, here is a list of their upcoming projectsFantastic Four opens August 7th, 2015, Deadpool on February 12, 2016, X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27, 2016, Gambit on October 7 2016, Wolverine 3 (not the official title) on March 3rd, 2017, Fantastic Four 2 on June 9th, 2017, and some as-yet unspecified X-Men film on July 13th, 2018.
