Watch the Pilot Episode of Powers, Starring Sharlto Copley

Despite finally having a proper release a few days ago, Playstation’s first ever show titled Powers is now streaming online to watch for free via youtube. Adaped from the Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming comic series of the same name, the show is set in a world where superheroes exist, but are policed by an agency called the “Powers Division”. The show stars Sharlto Copley (Chappie) as a former super who lost his powers, but now works for the Powers Division. Think the world of the incredibles with the tone of something like Se7en all set within a police procedural and you have an idea of what Powers actually is.

The first episode of Powers was directed by David Slade, and after almost a decade of development and production hell, the first season is finally here. For those that don’t know, the show was originally slated in 2001 to be a feature film adaptation. After many years of no forward movement, Bendis reworked the Powers into a television series format. In 2011, FX greenlit the show. Filming began, and ended in 2011, but only months later Bendis tweeted that “the reshoots are planned for January and are all about tone and clarity”.

Then in April of 2012, it was announced that the show would be “starting over“, essentially reworking the show from the ground up with “reshoots and recasting”. In July of 2014, it was finally announced that Sony was picking up the show for distribution in early 2015 as part of their plan to move towards using their Playstation Network to distribute original content.

The first season of Powers is currently streaming online, and is free for Playstation Plus Members.
