Star Wars Episode IX just may have found it’s director, and it’s someone very farmiliar. Last week, Disney officially announced a release date for Star Wars Episode VIII as well as a title for the first spinoff film. But one name that seemed very much absent from that press release is that of J.J. Abrams. While the director is hard at work finishing up Episode VII (watch the first teaser trailer HERE) for release this winter, Disney is now setting their sights on securing a director for Star Wars Episode IX, and it’s none other than the mystery box man himself.
According to latino-review.com, Disney execs are extremely pleased with the footage that they are seeing from Episode VII, stating that “there’s a good chance” that the director will return for the third installment in the sequel trilogy.
Now this doesn’t necessarily mean that Abrams will even be interested in returning, since the director has had his fair share of disagreements with the studio. While we don’t know for sure if Abrams will return to direct Star Wars Episode IX, i’m also not sure if he actually should. While most of Abrams’ work has been great, his last two films, Star Trek Into Darkness & Super 8 have been all but disappointing. I really hope that Abrams is able to turn the tide of his career with Episode VII, but I also have limited expectations for both Abrams and the film itself.
What are your thoughts on Abrams returning for Star Wars Episode IX?
