‘Pixels’ Trailer & Posters: Adam Sandler Fights Retro Game Characters

What do you get when old school video game characters mistake our classic games as an act of war? Pixels, the new comedy film that stars Adam Sandler, Josh Gad, and the always amazing Peter Dinklage. What is Pixels exactly though? Think of the premise of Ghostbusters except instead of fighting supernatural entities, they fight oversized versions of classic video game characters led by the almighty Pac-Man.

While i’m not entirely sold on the idea of a Sandler led film being anything other than mediocre these days, I think that Pixels does show tons of promise in this first trailer. The visual effects look very good here even for a first trailer, but the real challenge that the film will have to overcome is to actually make us care about the characters. Another big question mark for me here is director Christopher Columbus, who hasn’t really been a part of anything of note since his Harry Potter days. It seems as if Columbus is looking for that hit movie to push him back into the mainstream once again. Don’t get me wrong, this film has a lot of things going for it, I just hope that Columbus and Sandler don’t mess up those things.

And the Posters for Pixels:

Pixels hits theaters on July 24, 2015.

When intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet.
