Morena Baccarin is Copycat in Deadpool; First Set Images Surface

Now that the Deadpool movie is finally about to start production next week, stars Morena Baccarin (Homeland, Firefly) and Ryan Reynolds have tweeted the first images from the set of the film. Although they don’t reveal much, one piece of information is very informative, and that is the name of Morena Baccarin’s character in the film. While is has been announced that Baccarin would star opposite Reynolds in the film, it was unclear who she would be playing exactly. Now that question has been solved through her twitter photo, she will be playing “Vanessa”, a.k.a. Vanessa Carlysle from the comics, a.k.a. Copycat. In case you are like me and did’t know who exactly the character is, here are the cliff notes.

Vanessa Carlysle is a mutant shape-shifter who fell into a life of prostitution in Boston where she met and fell in love with Deadpool. After learning that Wilson had cancer, he decided to break up with Vanessa, causing her to become a mercenary herself.

While this backstory will certainly change for the film, it’s nice to know who Baccarin will actually be playing when cameras begin rolling next week. The question that still remains is whether Baccarin will be playing her character before or after her transformation. What are your thoughts on the character’s inclusion? Does the casting seem to fit?

Deadpool arrives in theaters on February 12, 2016.
