Last years The Lego Movie directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller was such a success, that not only was a sequel immediately commissioned, but multiple spinoff films as well. So far the lineup includes Ninjago set for a 2016 release, The Lego Batman Movie in 2017, The Lego Movie Sequel in 2018, and now the Jason Segel/Drew Pearce’s The Billion Brick Race.
It should be interesting to see the dynamics between Segel and Pearce. Segel, best know for his comedies including Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I Love You, Man, and 2011’s The Muppets. Pearce on the other hand, is known for writing highly intense action films. He wrote Iron Man 3 and the upcoming Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, as well as many screenplay re-writes. Their sensibilities could blend together to make an interesting final product.
Hopefully we don’t get Lego fatigue before The Billion Brick Race hits theaters. Warner Brothers now has a Lego movie every year beginning in 2016. Although, they have their own unique stories so we can hope they make the films different enough to keep the fans excited.
