Fantastic Four Images Showcase New Uniforms

20th Century Fox has released several new images (Via Totalfilm) from Josh Trank’s upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, showcasing the design of the new uniforms (or at least the early versions of them). In case you missed the trailer for Fantastic Four, the story is a “Reimaging” of the comic storyline and by the looks of things, the lighthearted nature of the source material is nowhere to be found. You will also notice that the trademark”4″ that has been a mainstay of the characters costumes in the comics are nowhere to be found here, further signifying the unique take on the source material.

Empire also recently spoke with the director, who said that

“The original two films to me are very similar to a lot of recent movies that have come out, in terms of that they are kind of cartoonish. It’s just not something that me and [producer] Simon [Kinberg] are interested in as storytellers. There’s the opportunity to make something that is challenging and tragic and dramatic. The opportunity is right there in the material. We’d rather steer it in that direction as opposed to just embracing a tone that comes right off the page.”

Fantastic-four-1

Despite some unexpected casting choices, the problem for me here is that the filmmakers have seemingly stretched the source material too thin. What I mean by this is that they have seemingly deviated too far from the source material, making it less of an adaptation than me might be led to believe. This seems to be a very interesting experiment by 20th Century Fox in trying to not only alter the tone of a series, but to also create such a drastic change visually. Ultimately, I’m more curious than excited for this film at the end of the day, despite my love for Josh Trank as a filmmaker. Here are the photos, what are your thoughts on the new look?
