‘Poltergeist’ Remake Trailer

Well…. this isn’t surprising.  A remake of a classic Hollywood picture is prepping for a release date, and the prospects look bleak.  In the horror genre the name sells the picture.  I understand that.  Sequels, remakes, and re-intrtpretations are a majority of the genre, at least as far as major studio releases are concerned.  While not entirely optimistic on how the Poltergeist remake will turn out, it’s important to hold judgement until we actually see the picture.

On the positive side of things, the talent involved looks promising.  Poltergeist stars Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt as the Bowen parents, with the great character actor Jared Harris filling out a decent cast.  Directed by Gil Kenan (Monster House, City of Ember) and produced by Sam Raimi, there is some small glimmer of hope.

Here’s the first trailer below.

And the official synopsis:

Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi and director Gil Kenan reimagine and contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is invaded by angry spirits. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and take the youngest daughter, the family must come together to rescue her.

Poltergeist was scheduled to be released July 24th, but has now been moved up to May 22nd.
