(PCM) Recently, we were able to catch up with The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus during San Diego Comic Con 2014 to shed some insight into where his character Daryl’s head space is going into the new season, as well as his relationship with Beth.

Reedus tells us “There has been so much gradual change with Daryl from season one up until now. He is so different so he’s on that same trajectory. The thing with this show is that they will always be like ‘Here..Here…this is delicious….sike!!’ All of those characters get more hardened as it goes along. They are fighting even harder and everyone is in fifth gear right now.”

Throughout the course of last season there was some definite chemistry between Daryl and Beth that was beginning to flourish, especially right before Beth was snatched away. Reedus reveals “Beth was kind of like this long dark tunnel. She was kind of like this little flame at the end of it. He got closer and closer to that flame and thought maybe he could see something and maybe there would be light and it’s getting warmer and warmer… and then someone blew it out.”

He goes on to say “If Daryl has a thing for Beth or whatever, I always saw that as, if he did, he didn’t understand those feelings. He might have felt them, but it wasn’t a thing. He was sort of uncomfortable with those feelings, but there might be hope somewhere down the line and then it was taken from him, again. Reunited with his brother, taken. Found his family in the prison, taken. Almost got Sophia, taken. It’s like over and over and over again. And that happens to all of us.”

We were curious to know how hard it is for Reedus, as an actor, to bring himself out of some of those dark themes. To which he responds “I am not just playing Daryl, I am Daryl. I do things differently than Daryl, say things differently and may do things a bit differently than Daryl, but I’m so living that character that I really care about there people and I would do anything to keep them safe. I would really take a bullet for almost all of us”.

We certainly hope that things will begin to look for Daryl in the coming season and perhaps a reunion with Beth could be just the ticket, but for now we will have to anxiously wait and see. From the look at the season five trailer, we know that Beth is still very much alive and appears to be locked in some sort of facility, but whether or not she will escape and make it back to her people is still yet to be determined.
