Scott Cooper’s Next Film is Granite Mountain Hotshots

Scott Cooper’s (Out of the Furnace, Crazy Heart) next film will be Granite Mountain Hotshots.  The film will tell the true story of nineteen members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a chapter of the Prescott Fire Department, who lost their lives battling a 2,00 acre fire in Arizona on June 30, 2013.  Cooper seems like the right man for the job, and should have people excited to see the finished product.

ddb6f83be38ad2bb83acd51be964a91aScreenwriter Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down) is writing the script with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who is also one of the films producers are writing the script.  Deadline reported What Cooper and di Bonaventura had to say about the film:

“The heroic and tragic story of the men who gave their lives to protect the community of Yarnell is heartbreaking, compelling and inspiring. I look forward to telling their story with the respect, sensitivity and authenticity that these true American heroes deserve.”

Said di Bonaventura: “The nation came together to mourn the great loss of life by these heroes, but their bonds with each other makes their story so much more extraordinary and compelling. The story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, and the tragedy that befell them, is not as much about the fire as it is about a group of blue-collar guys and their families and the brotherhood that they form with one another.”

Granite Mountain Hotshots should hit theaters around the Fall of 2015.
