Marvel Finds Director for ‘Dr. Strange’

While the next director has passed on Ant-Man, Marvel found their man for the upcoming Dr. Strange movie.  The Day the Earth Stood Still/Sinister director Scott Derrickson tweeted a photo revealing that his next project will in fact be Dr. Strange.  With Ant-Man due-out in a little over a year, Marvel can’t seem to give the job away.  The casting confirmation seems like odd timing, and may be Marvel trying to negate all the negative press coming out of the Ant-Man camp.  A Dr. Strange movie has yet to be officially confirmed as an official Phase three film, but it’s all but it’s safe to assume Dr. Strange will be one of Marvels scheduled upcoming films.

Derrickson’s other directorial works include Hellraiser: Inferno, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Deliver Us from Evil, along with a few there writing jobs, listed on his filmography.  He seems to have a good understanding of the horror genre, which may reveal the tone of the movie.

Dr. Strange debuted for Marvel in 1963, and was co-created by Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko.  Dr. Stephen Strange was a brilliant neurosurgeon, before suffering a career ending accident, ruining his hands and ability to perform surgery.  After locating Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme (Ancient One), he learns the mystic arts, and takes his life in a completely new direction.

Casting has been revealed and no release date is set, but I’m sure Marvel will talk about Strange and the upcoming August release of Gardians of the Galaxy, to focus attention off what’s happening with Ant-Man.
