Edgar Wright leaves ‘Ant-Man’

Director Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, World’s End) has dropped out as director for Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man, due to creative differences.  Both sides said the split was “amicable”, but we’ll see what comes out in news over the next couple of months.  Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas are still lined up to star, and Marvel says their release date of July 17, 2015 won’t be affected by the change.

Edgar-WrightThis is sad news for fans, as expectations for Wright’s take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe were high, to say the least.  Wright had been planning to direct Ant-Man over the decade or so, so things must have really gotten sour between he and the studio to make him exit the project.  Marvel says they will announce a new director shortly, but I’m sure no matter who they bring in, it won’t be anything close to what Wright could have given fans.
