Will ‘The Leftovers’ Become HBO’s Next Must Watch

From Damon Lindelof (Emmy® winner for “Lost”) and acclaimed novelist Tom Perrotta (Academy Award® nominee for “Little Children”), THE LEFTOVERS is based on Perrotta’s bestselling novel of the same name. The drama series takes an original look at The Rapture…because it’s not entirely clear The Rapture happened. Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Charlie Carver, Max Carver, Carrie Coon, Ann Dowd, Michael Gaston, Emily Meade, Annie Q, Margaret Qualley, Amanda Warren and Chris Zylka star. Lindelof serves as the series showrunner.  Produced for HBO by Adventure Corps in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Based on what we see the trailer The Leftovers takes place in the wake of a global “Rapture”—which may or may not be the Biblical rapture—and centers on the people who didn’t make the cut that are left behind in a suburban community. Some come to try to except it and to move on with their lives, many take advantage of the scenario, overly indulging in everything the world has to offer, and some join a cult known as the Guilty Remnant, dressing in all white, following people around in complete silence as they chain smoke cigarettes. Basically al the makings of a really creepy show.

This past Sunday, April 27 at 9:00 p.m., the first trailer for THE LEFTOVERS aired on HBO prior to a new episode of “Game of Thrones,” and you can check out the trailer above.  For more information, follow @TheLeftoversHBO on Twitter, and use hashtag #TheLeftovers.

Im personally very excited for this show and the trailer definitely sold me. Like many of you Lost fans out there, Lindelof’s name attached to the project does make a bit nervous, but I have been confidently reassuring myself that HBO has it under control and understands why some potential viewers remain skeptical. It’s a pretty safe bet to assume that when then show got pitched to HBO with Lindelof attached, there first question was, “Whats your end game here?“.  Also knowing that the source material is solid and HBO continues to become the best thing to happen to television, I am confident that this has the potential to be one of the best new programs this year.

The series begins its ten-episode season SUNDAY, JUNE 29 at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on HBO. Are you excited about The Leftovers? Let us know what you think
